What is ATEX material?

ATEX equipment is specially designed to operate safely in explosive environments without increasing the risk of explosion.

ATEX stands for “ATmosphères EXplosibles” and refers to European directives for equipment and protection systems used in explosive environments, such as chemical plants, oil and gas installations, and dusty environments.

The importance of ATEX equipment with certification

When a company operates in explosive environments, they are required to work with ATEX-certified materials. This equipment has been thoroughly tested and meets the requirements set out in the ATEX Directives (Directive 2014/34/EU).

This ensures that the products are safe for use in explosive environments. Companies that work with flammable gases, vapors or dust particles are required by law to use ATEX-approved equipment. Failure to comply with these standards can result in heavy fines and serious safety risks.

How does it work?

Making various machines explosion proof is a job that requires a lot of attention and expertise. At Atex Equipment, we go through the following steps so that you are assured of quality machines:

  1. There is an assessment of what the risk is. During this assessment, we identify all the risks.
  2. Based on the risk analysis, the machine is optimized so that the risk of explosion is minimized. Here it is important that all components used are also ATEX certified.
  3. When the machine is ready, we provide a thorough inspection. After this inspection, the machine can be deployed on site.

What are explosive environments?

Explosive environments are those in which there is an increased risk of explosion. This hazard is increased by gas, vapors and dust released by certain work processes. can be created by gas, vapors, dust released by certain work processes or mist.

Hazardous areas can be divided into zones for gas (zones 0, 1 and 2) and zones for dust (zones 20, 21 and 22). Each type of ATEX equipment is suitable for a specific zone, minimizing the risks to that environment.

Zone 0: Here there is a permanent presence of an explosive atmosphere.

Zone 1: Here there is a regular presence of explosive atmosphere.

Zone 2: Here there is no frequent, but possible presence of an explosive atmosphere.
